Agriculture - Level 3- Arable Pathway

Prepare for a career in agricultural food production – one of the UK’s most vital industries – with this course. The first year provides broad sector knowledge alongside specialist modules in root crop and forage crop production. Students then specialise in arable production in the second year.
Year 1 (All Students)
Plant and Soil Science
Root crop production (Arable specialist module)

Health and Safety
Year 2 (Arable Pathway) –
Spreaders and Sprayers
Farm habitat management
Waste and pollution management
ATV and rough terrain forklift operations
Business Planning and Diversification
A work experience day is built into the course to further enhance your practical skills. A feature of the course is the visits to a range of organisations, farms, shows and demonstrations.
How will it be delivered?
Your course is assessed by:
A multiple choice Health and Safety exam
A written subject exam
Written and practical assessment under controlled conditions
Additional qualifications are offered at the commencement of the programme. These may include rough terrain fork lift truck operation, ATV training, tractor driving as well as health and safety in agriculture. Additional charges may apply.
At our York campus students will have access to Westfield Farm and Home Farm, based in nearby Askham Richard.
4 GCSEs at grade 4 (old GCSE grade C) or above, to include 2 from English, Maths or Science with at least a grade 3 (old GCSE grade D) in the remaining subject. Alternatively a suitable Level 2 vocational qualification (Merit or above) with English, Maths and Science at Level 2.
Your next steps...
Progression routes from the programme can include Foundation and Bachelor degree programmes in Agriculture.
Working in industry, higher level Apprenticeships or travel and working overseas.
Progression and Development Sessions
All students enrolled on a Level 2 or Level 3 course will be required to attend Progression and Development sessions every week. These sessions will cover a wide range of topics from careers and employability, British Values and equality and diversity to essential life skills such as mental health and wellbeing, drugs and alcohol and personal safety.
