Course Summary

The Access to Higher Education (HE) Diploma is a qualification which prepares students for study at degree level. If you would like to go to university and don’t have the necessary qualifications, then an Access to HE course could be for you. This course is for those interested in a career in the sports industry or areas such as teaching, sport science, therapy, coaching and development.

•Human anatomy

•Business in sport

•Sport psychology

•Exercise physiology

•Sports coaching principles

•Sports development

•Fitness testing and training

•Sport injuries and rehabilitation

•Sports science research project

•HE study skills

•Sports coaching practical skills

•Placement practice

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Assessment will occur continually throughout the programme. You will have unit assignments to complete and will be assessed on your practical ability. You will also have time-constrained assignments, as well as oral presentations. Each individual unit and the full award are graded at Pass, Merit or Distinction.

Entry requirements

•A keen interest and willingness to be involved in the sports industry

•GCSE English and maths at grade 4/C or above. Equivalent qualifications will be accepted

•You will be required to undertake a Disclosure and Barring Services check

Equipment required

During practical sessions, kit will consist of a Sports t-shirt, dark shorts and sports trainers. Non-regulation clothing/footwear is not permitted. Students will also require ring-binders, writing materials, paper/stationery and core textbooks.

On completion of this programme, you could apply for training in a career such as BA/BSc (Hons) or foundation degree within the sport and leisure industry. Students wishing to apply to university are advised to contact the relevant admissions tutor to access help for their application.
