Course Summary
Interested in gardening and horticulture? Prefer to work and learn at the same time? An apprenticeship in horticulture could be the course for you.
This course would suit someone who is practically motivated and enjoys working outside but wants to improve both their skills as and theory knowledge.
For your time away from your employer you will be based at our horticulture site in Thornes Park and work on a variety of practical projects and help develop the garden.
Course Details
The course is split between theory knowledge and practical skills. College sessions will include some classroom-based work as well as practical sessions at our Thornes Park horticulture site.
Over the course of the apprenticeship you will learn a range of subject areas including how to prepare new ground for planting, soil structure and how to improve it, how to propagate new plants from seeds and cuttings, planting out displays and borders, creating and maintaining boundaries, water features and maintaining grassed areas. You will complete Award in emergency first aid at work, and level 2 principles of safe handling and application of pesticides.

No formal entry requirements.
Learners 16+. You must achieve Level 1 Math and English whilst studying the course and attempt Level 2.
