Course Summary

This qualification builds on existing knowledge and understanding of barbering, to develop an enhanced repertoire of technical skills to prepare learners for employment as a barber in this fast growing industry.

Course Details

This is an intensive training programme allowing you to obtain a VRQ Diploma Level 3. You will study the following units:

•Health and safety in the salon

•Consultation support for colleagues on hair services

•Colour and lighten men’s hair

•Creatively cut hairdressing a combination of barbering techniques

•Cut facial hair and provide shaving services

•Creative hairdressing design

•Colour correction

•Promote products/services to clients

•Salon reception duties

•Display stock to promote sales

You will also be required to participate in compulsory in-house College competitions.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

You will have continuous assessments and practical observations. You will be guided and encouraged to take responsibility for your own learning and provide male clients for assessment purposes.

Entry requirements

•Barbering Level 2

•You need to hold a minimum of three GCSEs at grade C or above

•You will also have to undertake an initial assessment

•You should have a genuine interest in pursuing barbering as a career

•Students will normally take part in an interview prior to being enrolled on the programme

•Personal presentation plays a very important part in the process of becoming a competent barber

•You should also possess creative skills and an interest in fashion

•You should enjoy communication with members of the general public and should have a commitment to intensive training

•You will need to have some prior Barbering experience and be able to provide models for assessment purposes

Equipment required

You will be required to purchase essential barbering equipment and protective clothing. Further information will be provided at your interview.
