Course Summary

Course overview The HNC in Construction is the industry recognised Higher Education qualification for trainees and practising building professionals in quantity surveying, building surveying, estimating, project planning, design and site management. The course will help you to develop knowledge and skills in areas such as building measurement and cost studies, environmental building science, building services, construction materials and specifications, as well as sustainability and modern methods of construction.

Course Details

This course will develop your qualifications and skills for success in construction management within the built environment.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

A range of practical and realistic sustainable development projects will be used to develop the skills and knowledge needed for employment and further study. The evidence from the completion and presentation of project tasks will be used for assessment of each unit. Examinations will be used to test knowledge.

Entry requirements

Entry onto the one year full-time HNC requires one of the following:

32 UCAS points from:

A minimum of two A Levels. BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma at grade Merit plus NVQ Level 3 trade qualifications with a pass in all modules.

BTEC National Level 3 Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment with a pass in all modules.

NVQ 3 Site Supervision or Site Technical Operations with a pass in all modules.

Plus

GCSE grade 4/C or above in English Language and maths or equivalent Level 2 qualification.

Alternatively, mature entrants with previous construction experience may be recognised through Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL)

We welcome applications from people of any age who might not meet the standard entry criteria, but we would expect evidence of continuing academic and/or professional development and a capacity to pursue the course successfully.

If your application is successful, you will be invited to attend an interview to discuss your ability and suitability for the course.

Your next steps...

After completing your HNC in Construction and the Built Environment, you can progress onto the HND course with the correct credit profile.

You can also progress on to the full time BSc (Hons) degree in Construction Project Management with the correct credit profile.

Graduates have gone on to work in construction and project management, quantity surveying, building surveying, site engineering and architectural technology.
