Course Summary

The qualification is available from Entry 1 to Level 2. It contains a range of units which develop maths and English skills needed in work and life.

These programmes are flexible. If you want to improve your reading, writing and numeracy skills, or want to gain a qualification for the skills you already have, a Skills for Life qualification could be for you. Functional Skills qualifications are designed to help you develop the skills you use in everyday life, such as reading and writing. They can also help you boost your CV or move on to further study.

Functional skills classes run continually throughout the year. You will need an assessment to determine the level you start at.

Assessments and enrolment will take place on Mondays between 1pm and 7pm. (term time only) Please come to the Old Mill Lane site reception area and allow up to an hour per subject for your assessment (if you require one) Last assessments will take place at 6pm. Course Details

These courses help you gain confidence in everyday reading, writing, and speaking. You can develop your spelling and the skills needed for tasks such as form filling and writing short notes.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

You will sit an examination at the end of the course.

Entry requirements

•Students must be aged 19+ years of age. Learners aged 16-18 will do maths and English as part of their full-time study programme

•No formal entry requirements or previous experience is necessary to undertake these programmes.

•Before you start, you will undergo an initial and diagnostic assessment to identify which particular skills you need to work on and the relevant units from this suite.

Equipment required

You will require writing materials and a ring binder.
