Course Summary

The course offers you an ideal opportunity to acquire knowledge, understanding and the necessary transferable skills for working in the creative side of games design. You will study a variety of subjects and skills ranging from 3D game modelling, 2D game art, digital animation and 3D game prototype development through to games design theory, and games mechanics. All aspects of the course relate to industry contexts and industry links will be encouraged within many modules throughout the course. There is an emphasis on practical work giving you the opportunity to create a strong creative portfolio.

You will learn to use a range of industry standard software applications and techniques in the modelling, texturing, design and game asset creation fields. You will study all aspects of the games industry, including structure and operation, professional organisations, production flow, audience reception and emerging technologies. There will be a focus on employability and the creation of self-promotional material.

You will learn through lectures and seminars, workshops and practical activities. Your work will be assessed through portfolios and written assignments

Entry requirements

80 UCAS points from either A Level grades CDD

or

BTEC Extended Diploma with relevant subject of Film or Media at grade Merit, Merit, Pass

Plus GCSE English and maths at grade C or above or Level 2 equivalent

Your next steps...

Graduates can go on to work within the games industry as 2D or 3D artists, level designers, concept artists and animators. Some graduates may choose to work freelance and some may choose careers in other media such as advertising and film or television.
