Course Summary
English is invaluable for your future no matter what you are aiming for. A good command of the spoken and written word will help you every day and benefit all your other GCSEs too. Whatever you end up doing, English is a must have subject for college, university, work and life.
From Architecture to Zoology, GCSE English will help you to:
•Work independently
•Be creative

Assessments and enrolment will take place on Mondays between 1pm and 7pm. (term time only) Please come to the Old Mill Lane site reception area and allow up to an hour per subject for your assessment (if you require one) Last assessments will take place at 6pm. Course Details
You will study the following areas:
•Effective communication through speaking and listening
•The ability to read with insight, distinguish between fact and opinion, follow an argument and understand how writers use language to achieve effect
•The ability to organise your ideas and to communicate clearly through writing

How will it be delivered and assessed?
The new specification of GCSE English has no coursework element. There are two exams at the end of the course.
You must be able to attend the exams on the days given to you as they are fixed dates for all GCSE exams across the country.
There is a separate Speaking and Listening component to the course which is assessed in class and does not count towards your overall 1 – 9 grade. A separate grade of Pass, Merit or Distinction is given for this element of the course.
Entry requirements
•Students are normally expected to have achieved grade D/3 in GCSE
•You will take an assessment to determine your suitablility for the GCSE Programme. If you are not ready for GCSE you will undertake the functional skills qualification
