Course Summary

If you want to make a difference to people’s lives in a positive way and at the same time gain skills, then a qualification in Health and Social Care is the route for you! This Level 2 Technical Certificate is designed to give you the knowledge, understanding and skills to prepare for employment or progression to further education.

Course Details

The course will be delivered over 12 hours per week. You will have the opportunity to explore health and social care and develop your knowledge to successfully progress to study at Level 3 or apply for employment in health and social care at a trainee level.

You will complete 4 units throughout the year in College and you will also be expected to participate in a minimum of 200 hours work experience, which will be organised by the department.

There is a mixture of study methods employed on the programme, these being practical exercises, group workshops, discussions, assignments and presentations to stimulate your interest and enhance your learning. The course has 4 units which you must achieve in order to be accredited with the BTEC Level 2 Technical Certificate in Adult Care.

You will study:

Principles and practices in adult care settings

Communication

Health and Safety and Safeguarding

Developing professional practice

You will also study maths and English functional skills/GCSE if not previously attained. You will also take part in a mandatory 200 hours work placement.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

You will be continually assessed on this programme through a wide variety of course work, which may take several forms e.g. posters, leaflets, a report or an assignment. Assessments are conducted during work placement, for example, observations of practice.

Entry requirements

No qualifications are required, however, Level 1 Health and Social Care plus Level 1 Functional Skills in English and maths would be an advantage

All students will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check

All equipment will be provided.

Upon achievement of this qualification, learners may able to progress to our Level 3 Access to HE: Health Science Professions or a range of job roles within the health and social care sector.

Care Support Workers in Adult Residential Settings

Healthcare Assistants in Community, Primary Care and Acute Health Environments

Care Support Workers in Domiciliary Services, Supported Living or Day Services

Community-Based Support Workers.

Achievement of this qualification will equip learners with knowledge and understanding across a range of subject areas, which will enable progression to further learning at Level 3 or employment.
