Course Summary

This course introduces you to dementia and will help you develop an awareness of dementia, what it is and how it can affect different people. You will learn about the most common causes of dementia and the factors relating to an individual's experience of dementia, and how a person-centred approach to care can enable individuals with dementia to experience well-being. Finally, you will explore common medications used within the field of dementia care and how medication can be used appropriately and effectively using a person-centred approach to care.

Completion within 12 weeks, although early completion is achievable

The student will learn through the support of relevant materials for the course, with a knowledgeable tutor providing advice and guidance on the course content.

Dementia awareness

The person-centred approach to the care and support of individuals with dementia

Understanding equality, diversity and inclusion in dementia care

Understand the administration of medication to individuals with dementia using a person-centred approach

Understand behaviour in the context of dementia

Understand the benefits of engaging in activities in social care


How will it be delivered and assessed?

The course is delivered via distance learning, supported by a range of interactive online resources. Work is assessed by the tutor throughout the programme from induction to completion.


Entry requirements

No specific entry requirements, however good written English is desirable.
