Course Summary
If you’re serious about a career working with animals, this is the study programme for you.
You’ll be learning by handling the animals in the College’s collection of small mammals and exotic species, undertaking work experience placements and going on visits such as to The Deep, Yorkshire Wildlife Park and Swithens Farm.

How will it be delivered and assessed?
Level 3 there are exam elements for Animal Biology, Animal Welfare & Ethics and Animal Breeding & Genetics. Remaining units have graded assignments to complete.
Entry requirements
Level 3 Extended Diploma in Animal Management
4 GCSEs at grades 9-4, including English or maths and a 3 in the other
OR
4 GCSEs 9-4 and Level 2 in either English or maths, and grade 3 or Level 1 in the other
OR
Level 2 Technical Diploma in Animal Care at Merit grade plus, Level 2 English and maths

Further Study:
On successful completion and with the required English and maths grades you can progress through the levels.
Level 3 Extended Diploma in Animal Management students can progress to the HND in Animal Management (Animal Behaviour and Welfare) which we offer at Wakefield College or an Animal Management Foundation Degree or BSc (Hons) in Animal Management. Related degrees courses include Zoology, Marine Biology, Animal Welfare and Behaviour are also alternative progression routes.
Career Opportunities:
This study programme will provide opportunities for employment in any of the following sectors:
Pet store assistant, cattery, kennel assistant, animal nursing assistant, animal groomer and pet shop assistant are just some possibilities. You could work in boarding kennels and catteries, veterinary practices, charities such as the RSPCA, Guide Dogs for the Blind or wildlife sanctuaries, grooming parlours, pet shops, zoos and wildlife parks.
Supervisory or management positions in a wide range of environments including boarding kennels, zoos, wildlife rescue centres, the veterinary industry, conservation projects and environment management.
