Course Summary

Our BTEC Level 2 in Applied Science is a yearlong, full time study programme. You will gain a nationally recognised qualification that opens up opportunity to progress to Level 3 study programmes or at a junior level role in the STEM industries.
If you’re looking for a nationally recognised qualification developed to support your progression to a STEM related career, this is the course for you! Our Level 2 qualification is an ideal stepping stone to a career in the industry, and offers the chance to progress to our Level 3 range of qualifications.

Course Details

The topics you study will prepare you to develop a range of practical skills that develop you for your next step into industry or higher level qualifications. Topics include:

• Chemistry and our earth
• Energy and our universe
• Biology and our environment

Our enthusiastic and dedicated staff will bring learning to life, helping you to develop practical Science based skills which will prepare you for your next steps. This is a highly interactive and hands-on course, and you will benefit from the input of our visiting industry speakers and trips and visits that will inspire you to succeed in your course.

All of our students are encouraged to prepare for their future success by attending our Progression Conference, helping you to secure your next steps after your Level 2 course.

Through your experience of practical activities and theory you will develop your self-confidence and communication skills. Group work, presentations and practical experiments will offer you the chance to develop as a student and prepare you for your future.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Assessment is via presentations, group work and assignments and externally assessed exams.

Entry requirements

Grade 3 in GCSE Maths and one Grade 3 within GCSE Single or Combined Science grades included in the standard requirements for Level 2 Extended Certificate. General entry criteria will also apply, this is available on our website.

Your next steps...

Our students often progress to Level 3 routes and then on to higher education, however this qualification also offers a route to junior positions within the STEM industries such as product testing, hospital laboratory work and scientific research.
