Tuition and certification are free if you are aged 16-18. Related additional costs may include materials, equipment, visits, and residentials, which are payable by all students. Any student registered with an Awarding Body who has been given free entry and subsequently withdraws or is withdrawn by a tutor will incur the certification fee associated with the course. Any re-sit examination will incur a cost. Different fees apply to international/overseas students and those studying this qualification as a standalone course.

Course Summary

Technological advancements in an ever-changing world mean digital literacy is key to future development. It is necessary to equip our students with the skills needed for the future. Emerging technology is creating jobs that previously did not exist, it is vital to develop students who are logical and adaptable thinkers to meet future industry needs and are capable of mastering new technology.

The units chosen are selected so that students can develop a solid foundation in IT. Designing and building programs, understanding data and the threats we face while developing project management and teamwork skills will put students in a position where they can face the future challenges with confidence and an ability to solve problems and develop their ideas to create a range of digital content.

Further units maybe available allowing the opportunity to specialise in particular areas of IT


How will it be delivered and assessed?

Written Assignments and practical observations/tasks, external (exams), internal (assignments) and synoptic (projects) and some units are externally assessed via online exams.

Entry Level 3

GCSEs at 3-1, including English and Maths

Level 1

3 GCSEs at 9-1, including English and Maths

OR

Relevant Entry Level 3 at Merit grade plus English and Maths Functional Skills at a minimum of Entry Level 3

Level 2

4 or 5 GCSEs at 9-3, including English and Maths

OR

Relevant Level 1 qualification at Merit grade plus English and Maths Functional Skills at a minimum of Level 1

Level 3

5 GCSEs at 9-4, including English or Maths

OR

Relevant Level 2 at Merit grade, plus English and Maths Functional Skills at a minimum of Level 2

Further study

On completion with the appropriate pass plus English and maths grades, you can progress through the levels, you can then progress to Higher Education to study for an HNC/D, Foundation Degree or BA/BSc degree in a range of disciplines at Wakefield College or a centre of your choice.
