Course Summary
Studying this course is the ideal choice for students who aspire to work in the health sector. This 2-year course will provide valuable practical and theoretical experience of the sector and the principles that underpin the care management of patients. The T level is a two-year technical study programme developed in collaboration with employers and education providers, so the content meets the needs of the industry and prepares students for entry into skilled employment, apprenticeships, or higher education.
T Levels will provide a mixture of:
- Technical knowledge and skills specific to a chosen industry or occupation.
- An industry placement of at least 45 days in their chosen industry or occupation.
- Relevant Maths, English and digital skills which underpin your future role.
Course Details
The T Level is split into two components:
Core Component: This element of your study will provide knowledge and understanding, underpinning key concepts, theories, principles and core skills relevant to the T Level and the subject sector. These include:
- A1: Working within the health and science sector
- A2: The healthcare sector
- A3: Health, Safety and environmental regulations in the health and science sector
- A4: Health and safety regulations applicable in the health and science sector
- A5: Managing information and data within health and science sectors
- A6: Managing personal information
- A7: Good scientific and clinical practice
- A8: Providing person-centred care
- A9: Health and wellbeing
- A10: Infection prevention and control in health-specific settings
- A11: Safeguarding
Core components Science concepts:
- B1: Core science concepts
- B2: Further science concepts
Core skills
- CS1: Demonstrate Person-centred care skills
- CS2: Communication
- CS3: Team working
- CS4: Reflective evaluation

Occupational Specialism: This provides the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to achieve competence in ‘Supporting the Mental Health Team’. You will complete one Occupational Specialism, and the knowledge, and skills you will develop will be informed by the following:
- Provide care and support to individuals with mental health conditions
- Assist the mental health team with mental health tasks and therapeutic interventions
- Promote mental wellbeing
This will provide you with the knowledge and skills required to enter employment or further study in the specific occupational area.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Core Component:
• Paper A written examination
• Paper B written examination
• Employer-set project
In order to achieve a grade for Core Components, you must have results for both sub-components (the core written examinations and the employer-set project). The combined results for these sub-components will be aggregated to form the overall grade A*- E and U.
Occupational Specialism Component:
• Synoptic assignments
You will also be required to successfully achieve a Distinction/Merit/Pass grade in one of the Occupational Specialism Components.
In addition, you must complete an industry placement, lasting a minimum of 315 hours.
Entry requirements
Five GCSEs at grades 4 or above including GCSE English, Maths and Science.
OR
Level 2 Health and Social care grade A, plus GCSE English, Maths and Science at grade 4.
T-Level courses are only available for 16-18 year olds.
