An Infrastructure Technician provides support to internal and external customers, helping them to be productive when using technology to do their own jobs, by using tools to problem solve and trouble shoot non routine problems.
The Infrastructure Technician aids people with systems and provides support when they need it, rectifying issues to maintain the organisation’s productivity.
Our apprenticeship will provide you with the experience and skills needed for network administration, setting up servers, help desk management, security patching and provide opportunities for you to acquire professional IT vendor qualifications within the field.

Start your IT Infrastructure Technician Apprenticeship with us and learn to provide excellent support for a variety of different platforms and services, develop your IT skills and become certified in a range of qualifications.
Our Infrastructure Technician apprenticeship equips learners with the technical skills they need to build competency within their role, developing a core set of technical and academic skills. This covers an array of subject areas and allows learners to acquire a strong appreciation and understanding of:
- Networking
- IT Security including organisational guidance and legislation
- Remote Infrastructure (virtual and mobile)
- Data, Data Recording, Analyses and Communication
- Health and Safety
- Performance Optimisation including hardware/software and Network Systems
Often as part of a larger team, learners will be required to support peers with technology and use tools to find solutions to non-routine problems through problem solving, help desk service and support, workflow management and technical support for a number of different platforms including PCs, laptops, networks, and servers.
This will help develop a number of practical skills, some of which include:
- Computer Architecture, Operating Systems and Remote Operations
- Cabling, Connectivity and Testing (physical and wireless)
- Maintenance, Processes and Practices
- Cloud and Cloud Services
- Business Processes and Disaster Recovery
- Coding and Logic
Learners will also be required to follow organisational standards; competently demonstrating an ability to communicate both in writing and orally at all levels, using a range of tools and demonstrating strong interpersonal skills and cultural awareness when dealing with colleagues, customers and clients during all tasks within the programme.

On Programme Assessment will include a mixture of:
- Practical demonstrations
- Work based projects
- Written assessments
- Portfolio
- Observations
- End Point Assessment
Entry requirements
- Individual employers will set the selection criteria, but this might include five GCSEs and/or A levels; a Level 2 Apprenticeship; other relevant qualifications and experience; or an aptitude test with a focus on functional maths.
