Course Summary

Mathematics is a challenging and rewarding subject to study. The New A Level has been designed to develop algebraic manipulation, graphical modelling, trigonometry and calculus in real world contexts. In addition to this there is application of statistical techniques and the mechanics of mathematics that ties in with Physics. A good grade in A level Mathematics is sought after for further education courses as well as employers because it demonstrates and individual who is determined, strives for the best results and can apply logical problem solving.

Course Details

As the New A Level specification has not yet been accepted by OFQUAL we can only speculate as to the exact content of this cumulative course. What do know is that Students will study all elements of algebraic manipulation, graphical modelling, trigonometry and calculus with elements of statistical techniques and mechanics of maths. This this then followed up in the second year with further study of the same content at a higher level to be examined at the end of the course. Separate examinations will be sat for Core content (Algebra, graphs, trigonometry and calculus) and Additional Elements (Statistics and Mechanics).

How will it be delivered and assessed?

100% examination at the end of the course.

A level maths is a highly sought after qualification yet is one of the hardest courses. All universities and employers value A level maths as an indication of an individual who will strive for success, overcome personal barriers, seek support and knowledge to perform to their highest standard and apply logical problem solving. This is ideal for going on to university to study mathematics or sciences but has applications to a range of other courses from Midwifery to Computer Science.
