Course Summary
This creative and exciting pathway is aimed at broadening and expanding your specialist artistic art and design skills to a very high standard in areas such as drawing, design generation, painting, 3-dimensional design, printmaking, ceramics, surface design and digital applications. Working within a creative studio environment and IT suites, you will develop artistic knowledge, self-confidence, communication, time-management and presentation skills, resulting in a professional portfolio and body of work.
Exploring the work and ideas of other artists and designers is key to underpinning all assignment work and aiding independent idea generation and development.

How will it be delivered and assessed?
You will be continually assessed by your tutors throughout the academic year, and an external moderator will verify and confirm your final grades.
Level 1 - will complete Units 1 – 6 which are graded at a Pass, and Unit 7 is graded at Pass, Merit or Distinction and will determine the overall grade for the course.
Level 2 - will complete Units 1 – 7 which are graded at a Pass, and Unit 8 is graded at Pass, Merit or Distinction and will determine the overall grade for the course.
Level 3 - year 1 will complete mandatory Units which are graded at a Pass, Merit or Distinction and 2 externally assessed units. Year 2 will complete further mandatory Units graded at a Pass, Merit or Distinction and 2 externally assessed units. The combination of grades from both years will determine the overall grade for the course.
Entry requirements
Level 1
3 GCSEs at grade 9-1
Level 2
3 GCSEs at 9-3 including English or maths
OR
Level 1 Art and Design
Level 3
4 GCSEs 9-4, including English or Maths
OR
4 GCSEs at 9-4 and Level 2 Functional Skills in either English or Maths
OR
Successful completion of Level 2 or equivalent at Merit grade, plus GCSE English or Maths at grade 4 or Level 2 English or Maths

Further study
If you complete the course with an appropriate pass grade with maths and English you can progress through the levels.
