Course Summary
Life in the public services can be challenging, rewarding, interesting, and exciting and you will require a variety of skills, knowledge, and expertise to succeed. This course/programme will help you develop all these qualities and give you an introduction to careers within this sector, whilst providing you with many other attributes such as communication and leadership skills, teamworking skills and confidence, that are vitally important in all uniformed public service roles.

Please Note: Work placement opportunities will be available at all levels. (This make it sound as though there will be placement opportunities within the services which is unlikely.)
Work placement and voluntary work opportunities are part of your programme which will help transfer the skills you have gained into the working environment.

What you will study
Level 2
• Undertake Adventurous Activities Follow Uniformed Service Routine
• Carry out Map Reading and Navigation
• Investigate employment in the uniformed services
• Physical fitness for the uniformed services
• Develop team working and problem-solving skills
How will it be delivered and assessed?
There are continuous assessments throughout the course. These consist of projects, presentations, physical demonstrations and written assignments. You may also be required to sit a controlled assessment as part of the course requirements; this will aid and develop your time management and rational thinking skills that will help you in your future career.
Entry requirements
Level 1
3 GCSEs at grade 9-1
Level 2
5 GCSEs at grade 9-3, including English or Maths
OR
Level 1 Public Services plus GCSE English or Maths grade 3 or Level 1 equivalent
Level 3
90 Credit - 5 GCSEs at grade 9-4 including BOTH English and maths
Subsidiary Diploma - 4 GCSEs at grade 9-4 including English OR maths
OR
Level 2 Public Services gaining a merit portfolio grade plus GCSE 4 or above in English or maths or equivalent level 2and GCSE grade 3 or level 1 in the other
Your next steps...
Further study
On completion with the appropriate pass and English and maths grades you can progress through the levels. After level 3 previous students have undertaken degrees in law, public policy, criminology, peace studies, psychology, sociology and many more.
