Course Summary

Are you interested in a career in Engineering?

This study programme focuses on performance using practical skills, knowledge and understanding. Completion of this course will ensure that you have gained practical experience relevant to situations you could face in a job within the engineering sector.

Level 3 Certificate is designed to help you gain a wide range of technical skills and knowledge which will enable you to progress to the second year of Extended Diploma Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Technical Knowledge) where you will be able to specialise in Electrical Electronic Engineering.

Level 3 Extended Diploma Advanced Manufacturing Engineering is studied over two years unless you have completed Level 3 Certificate first.

This study programme will cover a range of the topics and units at each level, some of which are listed below:

If you haven’t already achieved a GCSE English and/or maths at grade 4 you will study them as part of your study programme.

You will study Health & Safety at all levels.

Level 1 Engineering Operations

• Working safely in an engineering environment

Plus, optional engineering units.

Level 2 Engineering Operations (Skills) Fabrication & Welding

• Gas cutting and thick plate fabrication

• General welding applications

• Producing sheet metal components

• Interpreting engineering data and drawings

Level 2 Engineering Operations (Knowledge)

• Engineering environment awareness

Plus, optional engineering units covering fabrication & welding and mechanical engineering

How will it be delivered and assessed?

By continuous assessment in theory and practice and combination of short answer tests, practical assignments, and online examination.

Level 3 – all units in this qualification are internally assessed and subject to external standards verification.

The qualification and units are graded Pass/Merit/Distinction.

5 GCSEs at grade 9-3, including English and maths

Level 2 Diploma in Engineering Operations (Knowledge)

5 GCSEs at grade 9-3, including English and maths

AND

Diploma in Engineering Operations (Skills)

Level 3 Certificate (General)

4 GCSEs 9-4 including English and two sciences at GCSE grade 4, and maths at grade 5

Level 3 Extended Diploma (Electrical Electronic)

4 GCSEs 9-4 including English and two sciences at GCSE grade 4, and maths at grade 5 (2 years)

OR

Level 3 Certificate in Advanced Engineering (1 year)


Your next steps...

Further Study: On successful completion and with the required English and maths grades you can progress through the levels.

Full-time study at university to gain an Engineering degree or HND. Those in employment could progress to the HNC Higher National Certificate in General Engineering (Mechanical) or HNC Higher National Certificate in General Engineering at Wakefield College.


Career Opportunities: You could also apply for a wide range of highly skilled jobs in the engineering or manufacturing industry.
