Apprenticeship - Level 3 Plate Welder Apprenticeship

The broad purpose of the occupation is to manually weld plate and structural components to high standards of quality. This will involve fabrication, construction or repair of fabricated plate assemblies, extrusions and structural components (e.g. Channel, H-Beams, I-Beams etc.) used often used to fabricate larger components and assemblies. Plate welders will weld to internationally recognised quality standards using more than one manual arc welding process from Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG), Plasma Arc Welding (PAW), Manual Metal Arc (MMA), Metal Inert Gas (MIG)/Metal Active Gas (MAG) and Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) on more than one material group from Carbon Steel, Low Alloy Steel, High Alloy Ferritic/ Martensitic Steel, Austenitic Stainless Steel, Nickel & Nickel Alloys, Aluminium & Aluminium alloys, Titanium & Titanium Alloys, Copper & Copper Alloys.

You will complete a EAL Diploma Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge) L3 - Metal Fabricator and EAL NVQ Diploma Fabrication and Welding L3 during the apprenticeship programme.

Alongside formal taught sessions on a day release basis at college your designated assessor will support you in making progress towards the End Point Assessment by helping you develop the required knowledge, skills & behaviours.

Candidates are required to be working for a suitable employer who will support them through their apprenticeship programme.

As a minimum requirement, all new Apprentices are expected to have a minimum of Grade 4’s in English and Maths or equivalent and a L2 qualification in Fabrication Welding.

Candidates may progress onto further study upon successful completion.
