Course Summary

This course provides learners with the essential skills and knowledge needed to support construction projects across the built environment sector. Construction Contracting Operations Technicians play a key role in helping organisations plan, deliver, and complete projects in areas such as residential, commercial, industrial, refurbishment, and public sector construction.

Learners will gain insight into a wide range of contracting functions, including estimating, planning, buying, site coordination, quantity surveying, and design and build. The course focuses on developing the ability to use digital processes and project management systems that support the progress of real construction sites and office based operations.

The course prepares individuals to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders across both office and site environments. By developing transferable skills and technical understanding, learners will be ready to contribute to construction contracting teams within large organisations or small and medium sized specialist contractors.

Course Details

Candidates will complete a Pearson BTEC National Foundation Diploma Construction & Built Environment L3.

Throughout the programme, learners will:

• Work with digital project information and industry standard software

• Learn how to produce, analyse, and manage construction documents

• Support communication between professional teams, subcontractors, and clients

• Understand how construction activities fit together across the lifecycle of a project

• Apply safe working practices and recognise site hazards in line with legislation

• Build confidence in identifying and resolving issues using their own initiative

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Delivery will entail a combination of work-based learning with the help of an assessor and learning at the College by completing a BTEC qualification.

Once the apprentice has achieved the BTEC and Level 2 English and Maths, completed a digital portfolio and satisfied the off-the-job training requirements of the Employer Gateway, an End Point Assessment will take place which will be delivered in the following order:

  • Technical project report with question and answer session
  • Professional discussion underpinned by portfolio

Entry requirements

You will need to be employed in a relevant job prior to enrolment.

Candidates ideally require GCSEs at Grade 9-4 (or equivalent) in English and Maths.

Your next steps...

Upon completion there are several options including a HNC/HND, higher or degree apprenticeship.
