Course Summary

Engineering Manufacturing Technicians can be office based, manufacturing/plant based or more commonly a combination of both, working with engineering and/or manufacturing teams at an operational level such as with production team leaders and/or management level working with specialist quality or design engineers.

As well as liaising with internal colleagues, they may also be responsible for working directly with customers and/or suppliers or with representatives from appropriate regulatory bodies.

You will study a Higher National Certificate in Engineering alongside the apprenticeship as a mandatory requirement.

Apprenticeships give you the opportunity to work for a real employer, earn a real salary and gain a real qualification whilst gaining valuable workplace skills and experience. If you are aged 16 or above, are driven to succeed in a particular industry and are willing to commit yourself to training and study, then an Apprenticeship could be the right career move for you.

Entry requirements

Ideally candidates will have completed a L3 apprenticeship and completed the BTEC at Merit-Distinction level however all potential apprentices will undertake a basic Maths and English assessment prior to enrolment.

Only apprentices who began their apprenticeship training

when aged 16-18 will continue to be subject to the mandatory requirement to

study towards and achieve English and maths. Apprentices who began their

apprenticeship training when aged 19+ will no longer be subject to the

mandatory requirement to study towards and achieve English and maths.

However, for apprentices aged 19+, the apprentice or their employer can still

choose for the apprentice to study towards an English and maths qualification.

We will continue to fund those apprentices that wish to study towards an

English and maths qualification. There will still be a requirement for 19+ students to attempt Maths and English at L2 due the entry requirements for the BTEC qualifications
