Course Summary
Make a difference to people’s lives and take your first steps towards a future in healthcare. At Outwood Academy Hemsworth, this two-year Level 3 T Level combines scientific understanding with practical healthcare learning and experience in the workplace. You will explore how the body works, how health professionals support individuals and how to provide safe, compassionate, person-centred care. You will develop confidence, communication and teamwork alongside the professional behaviours valued by healthcare employers. Equivalent in size to three A levels, the course can support progression into employment, apprenticeships or related higher education.
Course Details
Study combines classroom learning, practical activities and an industry placement of at least 315 hours, approximately 45 days. Core learning covers the healthcare sector; person-centred care; health and wellbeing; safeguarding; safe working; handling personal information; good scientific and clinical practice; and science relevant to health, including the human body. You will develop skills in communication, observation, accurate recording and working professionally with others. Occupational specialist learning builds the knowledge and practical skills required for the healthcare pathway offered by the academy. Our links with Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust support opportunities to experience healthcare settings. Individual placement settings and duties depend on availability, suitability and required checks.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
The core component is assessed through two externally assessed examinations and an employer-set project. Occupational specialist assessment evaluates your ability to apply knowledge and practical skills to healthcare tasks. You must also complete the required industry placement to achieve the full T Level.
Entry requirements
Entry requirements: Four GCSEs or equivilant at grade 4 or above, including English, Maths and Science
Equipment required
T Level uniform and suitable footwear are required for practical learning and placement, in line with academy and placement-provider guidance. Placement preparation may include DBS checks, occupational health clearance and relevant induction. The Post-16 team will explain the arrangements and any costs before placement. Please ask about bursary support for eligible students.
Your next steps...
Progress to healthcare employment, relevant apprenticeships or higher education, subject to the entry requirements of each employer or provider. Possible further-study routes include nursing, allied health professions and related health subjects. Career interests could include healthcare support, nursing or other patient-facing services. Regulated professions require further approved training and professional registration; the T Level does not itself qualify you as a registered nurse or other registered healthcare professional.
